Verification flow (alt accounts)

On Discord, the alt account detection system steps in selectively to secure your server, imposing a strict verification protocol on accounts suspected of being alts or spam bots.

What a suspicious user goes through on Discord

When a new user joins the server and their suspicion score exceeds the threshold set on your dashboard:

Step 1: rights are restricted

Kotbo immediately gives the new member the configured validation role (for example @Unverified).
That role restricts read and write access to almost every channel on the server, confining the member to a welcome or holding channel.

Step 2: the direct message arrives

The bot automatically sends the user a direct message containing:

A welcome message explaining that their account has been flagged as potentially suspicious.
A verification button, or a unique encrypted and secured web link.

Step 3: external web verification

Clicking the link takes the user to a web page hosted by Kotbo:

Solving the Captcha: the user has to solve an interactive Captcha test to prove they are human.
Connection fingerprint scan: Kotbo checks for proxies and spam VPNs, along with the associated browser cookies, to detect multiple accounts connected from the same session.

Verification outcomes and sanctions

Once the analysis on the web page is complete:

If verification succeeds

The web server validates the session.
Kotbo instantly removes the validation role (@Unverified) from the user on Discord.
Kotbo grants them the standard member role, or restores full access to the server.

If it fails, or the alt is confirmed

If the user fails verification or is positively identified as an unauthorised alt account:
Kotbo grants them the sanction role (for example @Blocked-Alt), which restricts all access, or kicks or bans them from the server outright depending on the active settings.
The incident is reported to moderators in the staff alert channel on Discord.
