Message search

The Message Search page runs a global search across all messages logged by Kotbo, including those that have since been deleted.

Without logging, the page stays empty: Kotbo has nothing to search.

Turn on the Logging switch

Kotbo starts recording messages, and launches a background retroactive index of the server history.

Set the retention

The Retention (days) field limits how long messages are kept. The retroactive index never goes back further than that limit.

Let it work

While indexing, a banner shows the current channel, the number of channels scanned and messages imported. Results fill in as it progresses.

The messages recorded counter shows the size of the database.

Type your text into the Search messages field, then narrow it down with the Filters button:

  • Channel: a specific channel or All channels.
  • Author ID: the author’s Discord ID.
  • Author type: All, Humans only or Bots only.
  • Sort: Newest first or Oldest first.
  • With attachments: keeps only messages carrying a file.
  • Include deleted messages: deleted messages appear with the DELETED badge.
  • Reset filters clears the search.

A message edited after it was sent is flagged with (edited).

The Load more button at the bottom fetches the next results.

The Remove from history button takes a message out of Kotbo’s database. It does not touch the message on Discord: this only affects the search index.
