Channel management
The Channels module gathers every automation, voice statistics and security feature tied to the channels on your Discord server.
The interface is built around five main tabs, covered below.
1. Auto-Thread (automatic threads)
Section titled “1. Auto-Thread (automatic threads)”The Auto-Thread tab lets you designate text or announcement channels where Kotbo will systematically and automatically create a thread for every new message posted.
Configuration
Section titled “Configuration”- Channel selection: click the channels in the list to enable or disable them. Selected channels appear with a coloured border and a tick.
- Quick actions:
- Select all (filtered): selects every channel currently visible (handy if you have filtered by search).
- Deselect all: unticks every configured channel.
- Search bar: filters the channel list by name so you can find a specific channel quickly.
2. Sticky message (a message pinned to the bottom of a channel)
Section titled “2. Sticky message (a message pinned to the bottom of a channel)”The Sticky message tab keeps a message permanently visible at the bottom of a channel. The bot reposts it so it always stays the last message shown, which is handy for a rules reminder or a posting guideline.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”Every time the channel reaches the configured message count, Kotbo deletes its previous post and sends the message again at the very bottom of the channel.
Configuring a message
Section titled “Configuring a message”Click Add a sticky message, then fill in:
- Target channel: the channel the message stays pinned to.
- Message: the text that gets reposted (for example
Remember to read the rules before posting!). It cannot be empty. - Display as an embed: sends the message in a coloured box instead of plain text. Two fields then appear:
- Embed title (for example Read before posting).
- Colour: in
#RRGGBBhexadecimal format.
- Repost after (messages): how many messages are posted in the channel before the sticky moves back to the bottom.
- Minimum delay between two reposts (seconds): protects against Discord rate limits when the channel gets busy. Set
0to disable the delay. - Active: pauses or resumes the message without deleting its configuration.
Available variables
Section titled “Available variables”The message text and the embed title accept the same variables:
| Variable | Result |
|---|---|
{server} or {serveur} |
Your server’s name |
{members}, {membres} or {memberCount} |
Total number of members |
{channelCount} or {salons} |
Number of channels |
{boosts} or {boostCount} |
Number of server boosts |
The English and French variants work interchangeably, whatever language your dashboard is set to.
Available actions
Section titled “Available actions”- Repost now: forces an immediate repost without waiting for the message threshold.
- Delete: removes the message still displayed in the channel and erases the configuration.
3. Stats channels (live counters)
Section titled “3. Stats channels (live counters)”The Stats channels sub-module displays key server metrics in real time (member count, active members, boosts, and so on) directly in the names of dedicated voice channels.
Global configuration
Section titled “Global configuration”- Enable the module: use the main toggle in the top right.
- Creation category: pick the Discord category where your statistics channels will be placed.
- Automatic option: if you leave the selection empty or click Create the category, Kotbo automatically creates a dedicated category on your Discord server.
Historical statistics
Section titled “Historical statistics”Rebuilding statistics
Kotbo has a tool for analysing the full message history of your text channels in order to generate the activity charts on the dashboard.
- Run the scan: goes through the history in the background without touching the data already recorded.
- Force a re-scan: deletes and recalculates every existing statistic for the server. This action destroys the dashboard’s current history.
Default counters
Section titled “Default counters”You can enable and customise each of the following counters individually:
- Member counter: total number of users on the server.
- Bot counter: total number of applications and bots.
- Role counter: number of members holding a specific target role (for example
@Staff). - Channel counter: number of text and voice channels present.
- Category counter: total number of channel categories.
- Activity counter (24h): number of members who sent a message or joined a voice channel in the last 24 hours.
For each active counter you can point to an existing voice channel or let the bot create one automatically, and customise the name template (for example Members: {count}).
Custom counters
Section titled “Custom counters”By clicking Add a custom counter, you can configure extra counters by choosing:
- Statistic type: total members, bots, members online, members in voice, a specific role, total channels, categories, active members (24h), server boosts, or a member goal.
- Goal (target): specific to the member goal type, this shows progress towards a target (for example
Goal: {count}/{goal}). - Name template: use the
{count}tag (and{goal}for goals), which is replaced dynamically with the real value.
4. Create your channel (temporary channels)
Section titled “4. Create your channel (temporary channels)”This module lets users create their own temporary voice channel and configure it themselves using interactive buttons.
Generator configuration
Section titled “Generator configuration”- Generator voice channel: the “lobby” voice channel. As soon as a member joins it, Kotbo pulls them out, creates a new temporary channel and moves them into it.
- Creation category: the Discord category where temporary channels will be created.
- Channel name template: the format of the generated name. Use the
{user}tag to insert the creator’s username (for example{user}'s channel). - Required role: restricts temporary channel creation to holders of a specific role (leave empty to allow everyone).
- Additional generators: you can configure several independent generators (each with its own trigger channel, target category, name template and required role).
Supervision from the dashboard
Section titled “Supervision from the dashboard”At the bottom of the tab, the Active temporary channels section lists every channel currently open on the server. Administrators can:
- See the channel name, its current owner and the number of members connected.
- Change the reservation (required role) on the fly.
- Rename the channel directly by clicking the edit icon.
- Close and delete the channel instantly by clicking Close.
5. Honeypot channel (anti-spam trap)
Section titled “5. Honeypot channel (anti-spam trap)”The Honeypot channel is a blunt security tool designed to instantly detect and neutralise spam bots or compromised user accounts (self-bots) that join your server.
Configuring the trap
Section titled “Configuring the trap”- Trap channel (Honeypot): pick the channel to use, or click Create automatically. The bot creates a channel with suitable permissions and posts a warning embed in it.
- Sanction to apply:
- Timeout (recommended): applies a 28-day Discord write mute.
- Permanent ban: bans the account from the server for good and deletes its messages from the last 24 hours.
- Softban: bans the member then immediately unbans them, which has the effect of purging all their recent messages on the server.
- Kick: removes the member from the server.
- Warn: records a warning in the member’s disciplinary file.
- Automatic re-invite (optional - kick only): if enabled, Kotbo sends the kicked user a DM containing a unique invite link valid for 24 hours.
- Click Save in the green bottom bar after every change.
