How restrictions affect commands
On Discord, the command access management module applies your filters in real time whenever a slash command is run or autocompleted.
How restrictions apply on Discord
Section titled “How restrictions apply on Discord”When a member tries to use one of Kotbo’s slash commands on Discord:
1. Command visibility (autocomplete)
Section titled “1. Command visibility (autocomplete)”- If global Discord permissions allow it, the slash commands appear in Discord’s input menu when you type
/. - If a user is explicitly blocked, or lacks the role a command requires on the Kotbo dashboard, the command may still show up in their Discord menu (because of Discord’s caching), but running it will be rejected.
2. Rejection at execution
Section titled “2. Rejection at execution”If a member tries to run a restricted command (or runs one in a blocked channel):
- Kotbo intercepts the slash command’s execution.
- The bot returns an ephemeral error message (visible only to the user who ran the command):
Permission error You are not allowed to use this command in this channel, or with your current roles.
- The command has no effect on the server and is never executed by the bot.
Default access levels (inheritance)
Section titled “Default access levels (inheritance)”By default, with no specific configuration on the dashboard, Kotbo applies three standard access levels:
- Everyone: the command can be used by every member (for example
/suggest). - Mod: the command requires the member to hold a role defined as moderator in the dashboard, or the Discord Manage Messages permission (for example
/warn). - Admin: the command requires the Discord Administrator permission (for example
/link).
The per-channel, per-role and per-user restrictions you set on the dashboard override and refine these native Discord behaviours.
